Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu: The Jambukeswarar temple is dedicated to deity Shiva, and it is one of the five major Hindu temples dedicated to this deity in Tamil Nadu. These five temples correspond to the five elements, and the Jambukeswarar temple is the one that represents water. As many other Hindu temples in the South of India it is an example of Dravidian architecture, but it is particularly impressive. In particular, it dates back to the 2nd century and it has five enclosures. Here a view of a part of the sacred temple tank, with the face of a young girl and the profile of another one in foreground, and a beautiful particular of the temple interior in background, in a suggestive atmosphere. This is the enlargement of part of the scan of a slide taken in July-August, 1996.<br />
